Apparently Ghost Games is currently looking for a Narrative Director to support the team developing the next Need for Speed. Maybe a sign that this time the game will be wrapped around story, guiding the player through the game?
Ghost is now looking for a Narrative Director to join the team. As a Narrative Director you will be reporting to the Senior Producer and be responsible for how story is told in the game, how it enhances and supports the gameplay and creates emotional connections in the game. This is crucial in creating a compelling game experience.
The next Need for Speed is being developed by Ghost Games, who gave their debut with Need for Speed Rivals. For the next NFS they are given more time to develop the game, the release date is planned for 2015.
Gamespy shuts down its services on May 31st, 2014. GameSpy handled the online-multiplayer services of several games, which won't be playable online multiplayer after this date. (excluding direct ip-connections)
The following Need for Speed games are affected:
- Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 für PC
- Need for Speed: ProStreet für Nintendo DS
- Need for Speed: Undercover für Nintendo DS
Electronic Arts is evaluating options to keep services up and running, but doesn't have a solution yet. There are many technical challenges and EA is even investigating community-supported options to preserve online functionality for these titles, such as multiplayer.
Presumably a patch would rather be released only for fan favorites like Battlefield 2, Battlefield 1942, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and Command & Conquer games.
This year will be no Need for Speed, instead the developer Ghost Games wants to invest the time in developing a good game to be released in 2015:
Everyone here at Ghost Games in Gothenburg feels passionate about the Need for Speed franchise and Rivals was just the first step for us. We exist to make games that are constantly improving games that push the boundaries of technology and innovation. Most importantly, we exist to make games that excite our fans.
We are already deep in development on our next game and want to make this promise to you: we will listen to you. We’re going to give you the game you’ve been asking for. It will be the game you deserve, but to do that will take us some time.
We’ve made the decision to not release a Need for Speed in 2014, so we can work towards a highly innovative Need for Speed in 2015. An experience built on a foundation we know you’ll greatly look forward to.
In the hope of getting a sophisticated Need for Speed, formed by feedback from the community, I'd say it's worth the time waiting until 2015. Stay tuned in the next months for more information.
